About this lecture

Lecture by Alexandre Gurita and Ricardo Mbarkho, Friday, October 31, 2025, 6:00 PM, Zico House, Hamra, Beirut.

Invisual art is not exhibited — it is experienced. It neither seeks to create nor to represent, but to question the very possibility of art in a world controlled by images and objects.

This radical reflection was the focus of the lecture “Introduction to Invisual Art”, by Alexandre Gurita, invisual artist and Director of the Biennale de Paris and the École nationale d’art de Paris (ENDA), and Ricardo Mbarkho, invisual artist and Director of Research and of the Centre for Research and Creation (CRC) at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA – University of Balamand).

Gurita and Mbarkho relocate the artistic act into the real — social, economic, institutional. Since their first encounter in Paris in 1998, their approach has replaced the logic of the artwork with that of activity: the artist no longer produces artworks but creates the very conditions of art.

The lecture was part of Alexandre Gurita’s Invisual Art Residency at Zico House, from October 26 to November 3, 2025, a collaboration between Zico House, Artemed, and the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA – University of Balamand). The residency is conceived not as a site of production, but as a space where creation coincides with its own disappearance. Between reflection, experience, and transmission, this initiative opens a field of thought where art becomes an act of existence.
